Sunscreen: what it is and why it should never be missing

Sunscreen is one of those products we use a lot in summer and which, in many cases, we then forget about the rest of the year, although we should incorporate it into our daily routine. Its function is to protect the skin from solar radiation, especially UVA rays, ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun that reaches almost entirely the Earth's surface throughout the year, even on cloudy days and through glass and windows, and which is responsible for premature aging. Sunscreen also protects us from UVB rays, another type of ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun that mainly affects the most superficial layer of the skin, the epidermis, and causes burns.

Using it daily helps prevent burns, blemishes, and wrinkles, and is key to keeping skin healthy in the long term. And no, it's not just a beach thing: the sun is also present on cloudy days or on our walk around the city.

Facial sunscreen according to your skin type

Not all skin is the same, and that's why not all sunscreens work the same for everyone. Choosing the right one for your skin type not only improves protection but also makes it more comfortable to wear on a daily basis (and you don't end up leaving it in the drawer).

Oily skin

  • Which sunscreen to  choose? Light, oil-free and fast-absorbing textures.
  • Why? Avoid shine and sticky feeling.

Dry skin

  • Which sunscreen to  choose? Creams with moisturizing ingredients.
  • Why? Help protect and keep skin comfortable.

Sensitive skin

  • Which sunscreen to  choose? Mineral filter and fragrance-free protectors.
  • Why? Reduce the risk of irritation.

Skin with blemishes

  • Which sunscreen to  choose? SPF 50 or 50+.
  • Why? They provide greater protection and help prevent stains from spreading.

An extra tip for the eyes:

To prevent sunscreen from stinging your eyes, it's best not to apply it too close to the eye contour and let it absorb well before sun exposure. Sun sticks and sweat-resistant formulas  are a very good option, as they do not move easily when we sweat or enter the water.

Body sunscreen

For body sunscreen to really work, it is important to apply it all over the body and in sufficient quantity.

Sometimes we focus on arms and legs and forget about key areas such as the ears, neck, shoulders or feet, which are particularly sensitive and burn easily.

On the beach or in the pool, reapplication should be more frequent than in the city, especially after bathing or sweating.

Sunscreen for children

Children's skin is more delicate and needs extra protection. Therefore, it is recommended to always use SPF 50+, even better if it is with mineral filters, and reapply the product more frequently. In addition, whenever possible, it is important to avoid exposure to the sun in the middle of the day and combine the sunscreen with a hat, light clothing and shade.

Sunscreen for hair

The sun not only affects the skin; it can also damage the hair. Hair sunscreens, in spray format, help protect the scalp, prevent dryness and maintain the shine and colour of the hair, especially in summer or during prolonged exposure to the sun.

Types of sunscreen

Depending on the format:

  • Cream: the most common and versatile option.
  • Spray: practical to reapply, especially on the body.
  • Stick: Ideal for specific areas such as face, lips or eye contour.

Depending on the level or protection factor:

  • SPF 30: Suitable for everyday use and moderate exposures.
  • SPF 50 or 50+: Recommended for prolonged exposures, beach or pool.

5 basic tips to protect yourself from the sun

  • Avoid the sun in the central hours because this is when the sun's rays are most intense and damage the skin the most.
  • Wear glasses and a hat or cap: they help protect the eyes, face, and scalp from direct radiation.
  • Seek the shade: it reduces sun exposure and decreases the risk of sunburn.
  • Moisturise the skin well: it keeps the skin in good condition and helps it defend itself better from the sun.
  • Wear sunscreen all year-round because the sun acts even on cloudy days or in the city

Trend: Korean sunscreen

Currently, Korean cosmetics have become a trend, turning its flag into a seal of quality in all types of cosmetics. Korean sunscreens stand out for their lightweight textures, high protection, and invisible finish, making them ideal for everyday use.
