Ferran Torrent (Sedaví, 1951) is a Valencian writer and journalist recognized, especially, for his crime novels, set largely in Valencia. His first work was No emprenyeu el comissari (Don’t taunt the police chief) in 1984, a success that marked the beginning of his now consolidated career. Ten years later he published Gràcies per la propina (Thanks for the tip), a fictionalized autobiography with which he won the Premio Sant Jordi de Novela of that same year. La vida en l’abisme (Life in the abyss), in 2004, was a finalist for the prestigious Premio Planeta. Some of his novels have been made into films.
Here are his “top five”:

DATES
I buy dates because they are an energetic fruit and have a flavour that I love.

GAZPACHO
I live alone and like to eat although I don’t like to cook and gazpacho solves my meal at midday when I have to eat at home. I add walnuts, almonds, a little bread, hard-boiled egg, fruit…and it is a dish that I “cook” quickly and it is nutritious.

NATURAL GREEK YOGHOURT
It’s one of the products that I also like a lot. As I work at home, in order not to waste too much time eating, I sometimes have a Greek yoghourt to cover the time until lunch or dinner.

EGGS
They are a gastronomic emergency solution for me: firstly because they are very nutritious, and secondly, because they are easy to cook. Of course, they must always be organic eggs.

NUTS
Both pistachios and walnuts, almonds, etc. as well. And for the reasons I already said about working from home. They are a solution for between meals that help me optimize my work. I don’t have to prepare anything: they are a snack between meals that provide nourishment with vitamins without having to waste too much time.
