So you don’t know how to wash your dress or suit at home? Are you worried about spoiling it? We’re going to tell you how to do it step by step, either dry cleaning or in the washing machine. Let's get started!

When we spend good money on a new dress or suit for special events, we nearly always make sure it is made of top quality materials, which tend to be delicate and therefore require special care for delicate garments. Therefore, when cleaning a dress, overcoat or suit we always need to bear in mind the materials they are made of and their properties so as not to damage them and to make sure they last as long as possible. Now that you know how to wash ties, we’re going to tell you how to wash a dress or suit at home without spoiling it.

How to wash a dress or suit at home: step by step

  • Check the fabric materials: the label will tell us what the garment is made of, which is usually sewn to the jacket lining. The label will tell us the materials it is made of, whether it needs to be dry cleaned, hand washed, machine washed, etc., and also the temperature the material can be washed at!

  • Decide how to clean your dress or suit: there are usually several options to choose from: dry cleaning for the most delicate garments, washing by hand or in the washing machine. If it can be washed in the washing machine, we recommend the following:

  • Turn all the garments inside out.

  • Select the delicate garment programme and use a liquid detergent for delicate clothes. Make sure the programme does not include a spin cycle so as not to crease the garment too much.

  • Dry it: after washing the garment, it is best to allow it to drip dry, preferably hanging on a coat hanger so it doesn't lose its shape. Warning! Delicate garments should not be dried in tumble dryers as they can shrink.

  • How to iron your dress at home: when ironing these garments at home, make sure the iron is set to a low temperature, and if it is a dark colour, it is best to place a cotton cloth between the iron and the material to avoid bringing out a shine or burning it.

  • Storing your dress: the best way to ensure your dress stays clean after washing it is to hang it on a hanger and keep it in a bag with mothballs. This will prevent the sun from spoiling it and will make sure it is ready for the next time you want to wear it.
