Oil stains can be a real challenge. They are one of the most common but difficult types of stains to remove. With the right products, keeping your clothes free of oil stains won't be an impossible task.

How to remove oil stains step by step

Depending on the type of surface on which the oil stain has fallen, you will have to apply one treatment or another. In the case of white or coloured garments, the procedure to remove these annoying stains will only take you a few minutes. There is one trick that is infallible, and for which you will only need:

  • Absorbent paper
  • Talcum powder
  • Clean cloth

First of all, try to remove as much grease as possible with the cloth or absorbent paper. The next step is to cover the stain with talcum powder or some absorbent product. Leave the product to work for as long as possible. Remove the product with a cloth or delicate, clothes-specific brush, and wash the garment.

You can also apply other products that you probably have at home to the stain: salt, detergent, starch, or bicarbonate. Press the product on the stain so that it absorbs the maximum amount of oil. To do this, you can use a spoon and press on the stain. Then remove it in the same way as if you were using talcum powder, and wash the garment.

Recommended products to remove oil stains

If the stains are large, have been on your clothes for some time or are persistent, you may need to use specific products to ensure they disappear completely. Today, there are a wide variety of products on the market with different applications that will make your job much easier.

The key to using these products is to apply them only for a few minutes. You won't need a large amount to get a good result. In addition, you will be able to optimise your time, as there are specific stain removal products that can be used at the same time as you wash your clothes, which will leave them pristine. You may think it is magic because the effect is almost immediate and always the first time. Maybe it is ;)

Another very effective option is to use a grease remover and leave it on for only 5 minutes before putting it in the washing machine.

One last recommendation to remove oil stains

If you have chosen a home remedy and you see that the stain has not been removed 100%, you probably have not left the product you have used long enough. Simply repeat the process once more. Every stain on every fabric acts in a different way, and you only have to familiarise yourself with it a little to keep it under control.

If you are far-sighted, don't forget to take a dry stain remover with you. It will get you out of a jam if you're away from home.
