How to clean the rubber seal of the washing machine
Do you know how to clean the rubber seal of the washing machine, and remove the mould stains that cause bad smells on your clothes? Take note!
During these weeks of lockdown, the washing machine has been one of the essential appliances in most homes, even more so than before. It has certainly done 'overtime' in all Spanish homes.
One thing we must bear in mind is that the washing machine does not clean itself and there are parts of it that we must pay a little attention to, to avoid possible breakdowns or deterioration, which could be solved with proper maintenance. There are many people who do not dedicate time to the interior of the washing machine, but the truth is that, if we want our clothes to come out clean for a long time, we must pay some attention to cleaning the inside: drum, filters and... the rubber seal on the door.
There are many tricks to keep certain areas of the washing machine clean, and thus get it to work better and not break down.
How to remove mould from the washing machine rubber seal?
The rubber seal on the washing machine door is one of the most sensitive areas of this appliance, as a lot of water tends to accumulate and we do not usually dry it by hand when we finish washing. This is when the much-feared mould and blackened areas can appear. To avoid this, the rubber seal and each of its folds should be dried after each wash, with an absorbent cloth.
But if the problem is already there, i.e., the rubber seal is already dirty, don’t think that all is lost. Use water with bleach to clean it, and rub it with a cloth soaked in this solution, but be careful not to break the rubber seal. Another trick is to use vinegar diluted in very hot water and rub the rubber seal with a cloth moistened in the mixture. To help you clean the rubber seal better, you can pull it outwards, but be careful not to pull it out altogether. Then dry the rubber seal with a dry cloth.
There are also specific products on the market to remove dirt and damp stains, which may help you.
In any case, a good habit is to leave both the door and the compartment drawer open after each wash to allow them to dry and air out.
