Here are his “Top 5”:
COFFEE
I need to start the morning with a good coffee, and then I have several more. I like its aroma and the way the flavour envelops me, and that energy boost which helps me with tasks and work. If I have it with a small piece of 82% chocolate, it will charge my batteries and I will be feeling great. I also add coffee to cakes and flans. I just love it.
EGGS
I always have eggs in the house. They are an essential “store cupboard staple”. I like them every way, because they are extremely versatile. If you have eggs at home, you can fix up a lunch or supper, use them on their own or combined with vegetables, tinned food, cheese… Nutritious and flavourful protein.
LEGUMES
Legumes are another essential at home, another product that you can combine a thousand different ways. In my home, my mother would make an “olleta e la Plana” with beans every ten days, and on Thursdays she would make baked rice with chickpeas. As her children, we have inherited that desire to have them and to cook them a thousand different ways: healthy snacks, salads, stews… We even make flour with them!
FRUIT
We’re the kind of family that ends each meal with fruit. We love it all. We go for what’s in season: there’s always bananas, and when the time comes, oranges, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, watermelon, grapes… We love it on its own, in smoothies, with yogurt, or as a fruit salad. We can’t do without it.
VEGETABLES
We also love and need vegetables. But my absolute favourite, which I always have at home when in season, is artichoke (Benicarlo PDO). It fills me with vitamins and joy whether I eat it steamed, baked, boiled, fried… in omelettes, stews and especially in rice dishes. They are also beautiful placed in a vase to decorate a little nook.
