Who doesn’t love a warm cup of tea in winter? Find out how to remove tea stains from clothing with our simple tips.

Infusions or teas are drinks that we usually enjoy when we’re relaxing at home, we often drink them when we are having our moment of peace and quiet each day. Sitting or lying on the sofa is when we decide to drink this type of hot drink.

But if one thing terrifies us, it's that it might spill or tip over on top of us, staining our clothes or even the upholstery of chairs or the sofa. Although the truth is that these stains are easy to remove, and if you act quickly, they won’t cause a problem.

How to remove tea stains on clothing

  • The first thing to do is heat water, without letting it boil.
  • Once the water is hot, pour it onto the stain and wait for a few seconds for the hot water to soften the stained fabric.
  • Then apply soap on both sides of the clothing and rub.
  • The item of clothing will be ready to be washed as normal in the washing machine straight away.

You can also remove tea stains with a commercial stain remover. Nowadays, the market has a wide range of stain removing sprays with an “oxy” effect, which are completely suitable and effective against tea stains. Plus, these products are easy to use, you just apply the product to the stain, leave it to activate for five minutes and then wash the clothing as normal.

If you aren’t at home when this happens, and you want to remove the stain straight away, you can use vinegar. Most restaurants and bars are bound to give you a hand with this. You just need to mix a teaspoon of white vinegar in a cup of warm water and apply the liquid to the stain. Then dry the garment gently, if possible with a lint-free cloth, and you will see the stain gradually disappear.

How to get rid of a tea stain from the sofa

If the stained surface can’t be placed in the washing machine, like upholstery from the sofa or a chair, soak a cloth in water with neutral soap and a splash of lemon and rub the affected area until the stain disappears.

Afterwards, rinse with a cloth soaked in water and always start from the centre and move outwards, to prevent a mark being left on the fabric and ensuring the colour stays even.
