It is not uncommon to get home after having your hair dyed at the hairdressers and finding stains on the sleeves or collar of your clothes. And if we do it at home, how many towels and collars do we manage to stain?
We’re sure you’ve thrown some clothes away at some time because of these household “accidents”. We're going to put an end to that. Use our cleaning tips to recover your clothes without having to wear your fingers out by scrubbing.
How to clean hair dye from clothes
- Hairspray: If you notice the stain on your clothes while you are still having your hair dried at the hairdresser, don't panic! Ask the hairdresser to spray some hairspray on the stain. Yes that's right! If we apply some hairspray on the stain, this will prevent it from becoming attached to the fabric. When we get home we just need to wash the garment in the washing machine as usual, and wave goodbye to the stain!
If we notice the stain when we are back home though, we can also get rid of it since the alcohol in hairspray will detach the stain from the fabric and we will be able to get rid of the stain easier. - Water and vinegar: Mix some vinegar and water in a bowl in the same proportions. Wet the stain with this mixture and scrub it until the stain comes out. We can wet the stain as many times as we need to get rid of it. Then wash the garment as usual.
How to clean hair dye from skin
The skin on our face and neck are the places that are most susceptible to stains from hair dye since they are the closest to our scalp. Those areas often get stained when we are having our hair dyed, and it is not uncommon to have stains on our forehead, nape or behind our ears. Since these are fairly delicate areas, we need gentler solutions than for our clothes.
- Vaseline: Vaseline is one of the best remedies to get rid of hair dye stains. Put a little Vaseline on a cotton pad and gently rub the stained area in circular movements.
- Baby oil: Oils are some of the most effective products to get rid of hair dye stains. Pour a few drops of oil on the stain and massage it in using your fingers. Then wipe it off with a baby wipe or cotton pad.
- Toothpaste: Another good remedy is toothpaste, which is also effective removing hair dye stains as it contains hydrogen peroxide, which in itself is an excellent stain remover. Just wipe a thin layer of toothpaste on the stain, gently rub it in for 30 to 60 seconds and then rinse it off with plenty of warm water.
