Cleaning guide according to types of curtains
Curtains should be washed at least twice a year; in this post we help you learn how to clean each type of curtains. Take note!

Types of curtains
Curtains are, very often, the great forgotten of the cleaning tasks. But, however, they are one of the decorative elements that accumulate the most dust in our homes. For this reason, we must pay attention to them at least twice a year, and clean them thoroughly.
Each house has different types of curtains depending on the rooms, and the decorative style, so we must take into account the different types of fabrics in order to do a good cleaning.
- If we talk about classic curtains, made of fabric and hanging, the best thing is to wash them in the washing machine. Once we take them off the rail, the first thing we have to do is to remove the hooks, rings and all the elements that may come loose during the wash, and damage the fabric or the washing machine itself. Then, following the manufacturer's instructions, we will put them in the washing machine with a cold water programme, specific detergent for curtains and a gentle spin. Then we will hang them again damp so that they dry hanging and thus do not crease.
- To clean Roman blinds we must take into account if they are roll-up, screen or folding made of normal fabric.
- In the case of roller blinds, to keep them clean, it is best to wipe them with a damp cloth or sponge, rubbing the whole surface and leaving them to dry naturally. Avoid using cleaning products so that they do not get damaged or change colour.
- For screen blinds, as they are made of material that can be washed, if we do not want to dismount them, we can rub them with soap and water, and then leave them to dry naturally.
- In the case of folding blinds, which are usually made of more common fabrics, they can be washed directly by hand or in the washing machine, always following the manufacturer's instructions and with a detergent indicated for curtains. If the fabric is not too creased after the wash, we can hang them up while they are damp so they dry stretched out.
How to clean shower curtains
But, be careful, because if there is one type of curtain that deserves special attention when cleaning, those are bath and shower curtains, because a lot of damp accumulates in these rooms, and with it germs and bacteria, which is why it is important to keep them at bay and wash them quite often.
To prevent the damp stains that are generated, above all in the lower part, we can take a bowl with water and salt, and rub the whole curtain with a well soaked and then wrung-out cloth. We will wait for about 15 minutes and then rinse it with lots of water from the shower tap. Then we will wipe it with a cloth to dry it well.
From time to time, we will wash it in the washing machine with hot water, following the curtain manufacturer's instructions.
