Eel

The eel is an oily fish belonging to the order Anguilliformes. Distinguished by its elongated and very snake-like shape, this actinopterygian fish has two pectoral fins (dorsal and ventral) that are fused with the tail fin. Its skin is dark green and covered by a mucous discharge, which makes it a very slippery fish.

Although eels are not usually very large, the female tends to be longer than the male. Baby eels are known as elvers, and are very small and white.
