Some more classical trends have also found their way in, such as the midi and glass hair, which is nothing more than polished, loose, shiny, silky hair... And with absolutely no frizz thanks to the brushing techniques such as the sharp bob. Frizz has never been fashionable, and this year it is even less so.

We are going to tell you what causes that dreaded frizz and how to get rid of it with some anti-frizz tips, which include the use of highly nutritional products for our hair and anti-frizz brushes, just to name some.

What causes frizzy hair?

‘Bad hair day’, ‘frizz’, ‘lion's mane hair’… There are so many words for it! Frizziness is a problem that affects everyone who wants to grow their hair long at some point in their lives. Although it mostly affects people with curly or dyed hair, frizziness affects any dehydrated hair. Take note of the following causes of frizz!

  • Damp atmospheres: when dry or dehydrated hair is in a damp environment, it absorbs the moisture it is missing and swells. A good way to mitigate the effects of frizziness , is to deeply nourish your hair, find out how here.
  • Damaged hair: using hair tongues to straighten hair, dyes, highlights and heat in general all make your hair more vulnerable to frizz. This is because the moisture absorbing process is jeopardised if the hair cuticle is broken or split. A good way to protect your hair is to use heat protector. We tell you how to use it properly here.
  • Hair type: curly hair tends to be more susceptible to frizzing because it is dryer by nature. Take note of these tips on caring for curly hair and to fight off that dreaded frizz.

Anti-frizz brush types

When fighting off frizz nourishing masks and hair oils are a great ally, but there is something else to help keep our hair free from frizz: anti-frizz brushes. Although many of these brushes can be found on the market today, the most common ones are:

Flexible bristle brushes

The plastic bristles designed to brush at different heights mean it is easier to untangle hair whether it is wet or dry, and they also slide gently through your hair to undo knots without those painful tugs or breaking hair fibres. They can also smoothen out the hair cuticle, enhance shine and leave your hair completely frizz-free. Ideal for all the family.

Curved or massage brushes

This type of anti-frizz hairbrush is characterised by its slightly curved design so that it adapts to the shape of your head and gently massages it each time you pull it through your hair. They usually feature bristles with different lengths that massage your scalp while untangling hair much easier. Furthermore, the nylon bristles are antistatic, meaning they fight off that frizz. Although these brushes can be used when your hair is wet or dry, their skeleton-shaped structure with openings on the sides, allow airflow to pass through from your hair dryer.

Electric or ionised brushes

When fighting against dehydrated hair, the best way to do it is to avoid the heat from things such as hair tongues or hair dryers, and to use less aggressive methods. Electric brushes came about with this in mind, since your hair is less exposed to heat. Furthermore, the ionising technology permits fighting off static electricity making it easier to straighten hair. We need to bear in mind though that these anti-frizz brushes, do not substitute hair tongues or dryers, and therefore they do not straighten out our hair completely, nor do they dry it, they just help to bring out the shine and get rid of frizz.

How to untangle hair without damaging it and avoiding frizz

  1. We are sure that you already know that you shouldn’t use your anti-frizz hairbrush when your hair is wet unless it is specifically designed for it, because this will only serve to cause damage to it.
  2. If you brush your hair when it is wet, use hair conditioner or an oil cream. the other hand, use a few drops of serumif your hair is dry. This will help nourish it and get rid of any frizz.
  3. Divide your hair up into sections or locks.
  4. Hold each lock of hair in your hand and start brushing with the other hand from the ends, not from the roots. This will help get rid of any knots.
  5. When your hair is completely untangled, you will be able to brush it from the roots as many times as you want or need.
