WHITE WINES

White wines, especially if they are young - that is, they have not spent time ageing in the barrel - are tremendously fruity, fresh, and aromatic, and this is mainly due to the grapes used to make them. Let's get to know them:

MUSCAT

It is the queen grape of the whole Mediterranean. Sweet wines and Mistela wines produced with it are well known, but we must not forget that we can also find:

o Dry white wines

o Semi-sweet white wines

o Sparkling wines

All of them, when made from Muscat grapes, are a Mediterranean garden in full explosion: aromas of orange blossom, orange peel, lychees, menthol touches... awaken our senses, and drinking them is a pleasure.

ALBARIÑO

From Galician lands we find it in Rías Baixas wines, mainly also known as "Albariños", but it is also mixed with other varieties in the Ribeiro or Valdeorras areas. Characterised by its sharp acidity and salinity, which is shown when grown near the sea, Albariño makes perfect wines to pair with seafood. Try a MARTIN CODAX with seafood and fish, unbeatable!

XAREL·LO, MACABEO and PERELLADA

These are the typical grapes used to produce sparkling wines, which, combined, bring out the best of each other. The XAREL·LO gives us structure and acidity, the MACABEO gives us body and vinosity, and the PERELLADA, aromas and freshness. A coupage that makes our sparkling wines appreciated all over the world.

VERDEJO

It is the star in Rueda, but we can also find it sharing "coupaje", that is, mixing it with other grapes in different areas.

The Verdejo gives us dry, fresh wines with aromas of tropical fruit or fresh grass, ideal for a cool drink on a terrace. Check it out with a frizzante made from this grape, like the one produced by the YLLERA winery.

GEWÜRZTRAMINER

One of the most sensual grapes, common in areas such as Somontano. Its aromas of roses, violets, lychees, and slightly sweet, make it a grape that does not go unnoticed. Its pairing with foie gras or oriental dishes makes the experience one of impact.

CHARDONNAY

A slightly more serious grape, the Chardonnay, which usually spends time in the barrel, resulting in creamy, spicy, and mineral wines, capable of being paired with more elaborate and complex food. Without a doubt, it is one of the most renowned grapes in the world, and in the different regions where it is grown, it adopts different profiles.

VIURA

We cannot forget this grape, where in Rioja it reaches its maximum expression. Yes, because La Rioja is the birthplace of great white wines. Reminders of white flowers, such as the apple or cherry tree, and fruity notes such as the pear and apple, make MILFLORES an ideal wine for summer gastronomy.

SPARKLING WINES

And yes, as I was saying, sparkling wines are also for the summer. How about starting a meal with a glass of a good sparkling wine or even the whole meal? They are excellent travel companions for summer dishes, they bring us freshness, and they respect the most delicate flavours.

And what if I suggest a bottle of CUVÉE 1872 WINE to end a summer evening under the stars... who can resist?

ROSÉ WINES

Summer is not only for white wines, rosé wines become perfect companions for the hot months, where rice dishes, salads and vegetables are fixtures on our tables.

The most commonly used grapes are:

BOBAL

With a marked Mediterranean character, it offers us wines with a beautiful raspberry colour, fruity and sweet wines, essential for a mid-afternoon glass.

GRENACHE

It offers us very fruity wines with reminders of red fruit, fresh and fun. It is usually produced by mixing it with other grapes, and in different regions such as Navarra, La Rioja, Valencia, such as the rosé wines of MARQUÉS DE RISCAL in La Rioja or JUAN DE JUANES in Valencia.

...

These are some white and red grapes that give us fresh and aromatic wines for that time of the year, but not all of them. Spain is an area with a great diversity of grapes and each one of them is different depending on the area where it is grown, so the options are very varied. We have given you some clues, now it's your turn to find your favourites.

And remember, CONSUM makes it easy for you by selecting the most appropriate wines for each season.
