Effective tips to avoid ice in the fridge
We don’t just have to protect ourselves from the heat in summer, we also have to look after our household appliances. Here are some simple, practical tips that will help keep your fridge clean and working properly.

Why do blocks of ice form in the freezer?
The main causes of ice forming in the freezer are because of a build-up of moisture, which freezes at low temperatures.
Humid air entering:
Every time we open the freezer to get a refreshing ice cream, air enters which condenses as it cools down and freezes to form frost or ice.
Hot food or containers not closed properly:
It is very important to make sure that the food we freeze is properly sealed. Moreover, we should wait for the food to cool down before putting it in the freezer if we want to freeze recently cooked food.
Leaking door or not closed properly:
Household appliances deteriorate over time and the door seal can wear, or the door can get damaged and not close properly. This allows air to enter and ice is then sure to form on the inside.
Problems with the defrosting system:
Some freezers feature the No-frost system, meaning that the appliance itself thaws any ice. Over time, or due to manufacturing defects, this system may stop working.

What to do if ice appears in your freezer?
If ice appears in your freezer, you should clean it according to the following instructions:
- Unplug the freezer for safety.
- Empty the contents and store them in an ice-box so that they don’t thaw out.
- Allow the ice to melt naturally, keeping the door open for several hours.
- Remove any loose ice with a spatula and dry the inside.
- Plug it back in and place the food inside again.
