Smokey eyes have always been a must for party makeup, but we don't always know which colours suit us best, or how to combine them. We give you the tricks to get a perfect smokey look in a few steps.

Smokey eye makeup step by step
1. Choose the brushes: before starting, it is essential to have the right brushes for this type of makeup. The most basic thing is to have a dense or compact brush with a flat shape to apply the colour; and another with looser hairs to blend.
2. Pre-base: as smokey eyes require a lot of colour on the eyelid and we want it to last all day, the first thing to do is to apply a pre-base on the mobile eyelid, and extend it as if it were a concealer. You can do this easily with your finger.
3. A good eyeshadow palette: smokey eyes do not have to be black, although it is the most common colour; we can use browns, oranges, blues, pinks, etc. The important thing is for them to be quality eyeshadows, and for them to combine with the colour of your eyes.
4. Dare to use glitter: If you want to give a festive touch to your makeup, you only need to add a metallic eyeshadow. Take a generous amount with your ring finger and apply on the centre of the eyelid with very soft dabs. This looks great with the black smokey eye look, but if you use lighter colours on your eyes, you can also try gold.
5. Apply an eyeliner: this is the step that gives us that more striking touch. Apply the eyeliner and extend it beyond the corner of your eye if you want your eye makeup to be more noticeable.
6. Mascara: to finish the process, apply a mascara that gives volume and length, because, with such powerful eye makeup, we need to enhance our eyelashes too, otherwise they would go unnoticed.
What colours can we use to get smokey eyes?
-
Blue eyes: pink and orange colours highlight your look. Coral or peach colours also work very well. And if you want to make your eyes really stand out, try gold, it looks great.
-
Green eyes: pink tones are best suited to green eyes. Then, it's up to you if you want the intensity to be more or less striking.
-
Brown eyes: they combine with both neutral and very intense colours. Violets, greens, blues and even garnets are ideal for this eye colour. They also combine perfectly with beige, gold or light brown.
-
Hazel eyes: they combine with almost all colours. Use pinkish colours for informal days, and aubergines and purples for days when you want to highlight your look more. Greens and browns go very well with them, too.
