Changes to our hormones, the seasons, genetics and also periods of stress can all cause the onset of adult acne. These factors are often outside of our control, but by following some simple guidelines, we can avoid acne appearing.

 

 

What should a skincare routine for acne be like

 

 

  • The objective is to prevent unsightly spots from appearing through the blocking of our pores, which can be caused by environmental pollution, sweating and other impurities that build up on our faces.
  • Choose cleansers with salicylic or glycolic acid. They help to unblock our pores, reduce the size of spots and control the appearance of imperfections on our faces. The acids penetrate our pores and eliminate dead cells, oil and bacteria.
  • Remember to repeat the routine morning and night. Even though we may have a cleansing habit at night, we should repeat the entire process in the morning, and also add some solar protection.

Skincare routine for acne in 6 steps

 

 

  1. Micellar oil or water. Apply it to all your face. It gets rid of sweat, makeup and dirt that builds up during the day.
  2. Gel or mousse cleanser. With steps 1 and 2 you will have performed a double cleansing process in the Korean style.
  3. Toner. This closes pores and avoids them getting blocked. You can use a specific toner or thermal water.
  4. It is now time for the serum.  Serum reinforces our skin’s protective barrier and prevents marks and blotches caused by acne from appearing.
  5. Apply some specific moisturising cream for oily skin. We recommend using one that contains anti-inflammatory active ingredients, such as watermelon seed extract, azelaic acid and salicylic acid or Vitamin C.
  6. Always use sun protection. Choose a light textured, matte finish oil-free sun cream. This is indispensable in our morning routine all year round.

Exfoliation and face masks

 

 

In addition to strictly following this easy cleansing and care routine, we should also have other long-term routines to keep oily skin healthy. We recommend exfoliating this skin type 2 or 3 times a week. The exfoliant should contain salicylic acid as it is oil-soluble and eliminates the layers of dead cells whilst also penetrating and cleaning blocked pores.
You should always find time for your relaxing weekly face mask to look after your oily skin and avoid spots from appearing. Choose drying ingredients such as white clay which regulates excesses of sebum, or tea tree oil to keep your pores in order.

5 tips to prevent acne from appearing

 

 

  • Avoid your hair falling over your face or coming into contact with you skin. The oil and dirt on your hair can cause acne.
  • Clean you face after washing your hair. Many specific products for your scalp contain ingredients that can cause spots.
  • Use paper or roll-on dryer if you notice an excess of oil or shine on your skin during the day. This will keep dirt under control until it is time for your daily cleansing routine.
  • Don’t touch them! There is a huge temptation to do so, but you should never touch them. If you do, you may spread the bacteria or leave scars.
  • Change your pillowcase regularly. Your skin comes into contact with a combination of dirt, bacteria and dead skin that builds up on your pillow every night. Keep it clean.
