Hair plopping: what it is and what it is for
In this article we are going to tell you what the hair plopping method consists of, how to do it and the benefits of this technique. Don’t miss out!

Keeping frizz at bay is one of the most difficult jobs for people with wavy or curly hair. Excessive frizz can be quite annoying, since it makes your hair look coarse, dull and unkempt. Hair plopping is revolutionising the beauty world and haircare.
What is hair plopping?
Hair plopping is a very popular hair drying technique among people with wavy or curly hair, which helps define our curls and reduce frizz. It consists of wrapping your hair in a cotton T-shirt or microfibre towel to dry it more gently and avoid damaging the curls.
By not using heat to dry your hair, it remains healthier, and furthermore, the locks of hair retain the necessary moisture to enhance the curls.

How to do hair plopping: Step by step
The best thing about this method is how easy it is and that you don't need much time or any specific haircare products or accessories. We do recommend using your usual haircare routine for curly hair though. We are going to tell you how to do hair plopping at home, step by step:

1. Wash your hair as usual and apply your hair products. We recommend using a hair mask for curly hair or anti-frizz for even more spectacular results.
2. Towel dry your hair using a microfibre towel, and if necessary, untangle your hair using a comb. Remember to do it gently as your curly hair will be more fragile after washing it and you can damage it by tugging hard or rubbing it excessively.
3. Place a microfibre towel or a cotton T-shirt on a flat surface (you can use a table or the bed for this).
4. Tilt your head forward to lie your hair in the centre of the towel or T-shirt, making sure it is loose and is not squashed.
5. Wrap the towel or T-shirt around your head making sure it covers all your hair.
6. Join the ends of the towel or T-shirt above your head to hold it in place.
7. Leave your hair wrapped up for 20-30 minutes, or until your hair is almost dry.
8. Carefully unwrap the towel or T-shirt from around your hair and then leave your hair to dry naturally or using a diffuser on your hairdryer if you prefer.
The benefits of hair plopping
As we have already seen, hair plopping is a simple, effective technique to look after your curly or wavy hair, leading to healthy, natural results. Moreover, it has multiple benefits:
1. It defines your curls: By drying your hair using this method, you help to define your natural curls, avoiding frizz or allowing them to get out of hand.
2. It reduces frizz: By not using a plush terry linen type towel that can cause frizz, hair plopping helps to keep your hair soft with less frizz.
3. Less damage: By using a microfibre towel or cotton T-shirt instead of a normal towel, you reduce the damage caused when drying your hair with a hairdryer or excessive rubbing.
