What are the different types of skin undertones?
When choosing the right makeup or colour of our clothes that best suits us, knowing our skin undertone is essential. A lot of people mix up skin tone and skin undertone, but the latter is the colour base that affects how certain colours are seen on you. In this article we help you identify your skin undertone and make the most of it.

What is the skin undertone?
Skin undertone is the hue that is under the surface of our skin and which remains constant, regardless of whether our skin tans or lightens. It is classed into three main categories:
- Warm: golden, yellow or peach hues.
- Cool: characterised by having pink, bluish or reddish hues.
- Neutral: a balanced combination of warm and cool undertones.
How to identify your skin undertone?
There are several ways to find your skin undertone. We are going to look at some of the most effective ones here:
- Check your veins: look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If they look greenish, you have a warm skin undertone. If they look blueish or purple, you have a cool skin undertone. If you cannot tell whether they are blue or green, you probably have a neutral skin undertone.
- Try with jewellery: if yellow gold highlights look better on your skin, you have a warm skin undertone. If silver looks better on you, you have a cool skin undertone. If both metals suit you, you have a neutral skin undertone.
- Reaction to the Sun: if you tan easily and rarely burn, you most probably have a warm undertone. If your skin goes red before it tans, you have a cool undertone. If your skin can tan or redden just the same, you probably have a neutral undertone.
