Properties of coconut oil for the skin
Do you know the properties of coconut oil? Apart from using it for cooking, it has many benefits for the skin, face and hair. We tell you more about it in the post!
Coconut oil is very popular in the kitchen, as it is used in baking as well as in exotic dishes. Although it is a saturated fat, it appears to have heart-healthy properties. Saturated fat has been linked to increased cholesterol, but recent studies indicate that the medium-chain saturated fatty acids in virgin coconut reduce total cholesterol, increase good cholesterol (HDL) and prevent LDL from becoming harmful.
Coconut oil is also in vogue among athletes, because its fats provide a large amount of energy that would help sport performance.
But, beyond its culinary uses, coconut oil has properties that make it beneficial from a cosmetic point of view, for the skin and hair. Do you want to know its qualities?

Benefits of coconut oil for the skin and hair
The fatty acids contained in coconut oil include approximately 50% lauric acid, together with caprylic acid and capric acid, which have antibacterial, fungicidal and antioxidant effects, among others. Because of these components, coconut oil is often a great ally in the production of cosmetic products.
Coconut oil is a good natural cosmetic that moisturises and protects the skin and hair. The vitamin E it contains is an antioxidant, which prevents premature ageing of the skin, and its proteins repair tissues and contribute to cellular health. In addition, its antibiotic properties make it a good remedy for preventing acne, or skin infections and problems.
The fatty acids in coconut oil help to restore the skin's neutral pH, removing oil and excess sebum, and leaving the skin moisturised. It also has natural sunscreen properties, blocking 20% of UVA rays.

As for its properties on hair, it has a repairing and revitalising effect, as it protects and deeply nourishes it. Its effects can be used to treat both dry scalp and hair. It can be used as a mask, before washing, as it penetrates deep into the hair fibre, regenerating it and creating a natural barrier that maintains hydration and prevents damage caused by external aggressions. It also prevents the progressive loss of hair protein due to ageing.

Coconut oil can be used as:
- Waterproof make-up remover
- Cleanser for impurities
- Anti-acne cream
- Hair mask
- Anti-ageing cream
- Body moisturiser
- Lip moisturiser
- Anti-stretch mark treatment
