The importance of getting your skin ready for makeup

The purpose of makeup is to enhance the beauty of our skin, to flaunt a healthy complexion and highlight the features we like the most. For makeup to be perfect and achieve all that, we first need to get our skin ready for it.
The trick to ensure your makeup works properly is to make sure we have a complete facial routine that features cleansing and moisturising as the main steps, both in the morning and at night. We are going to tell you how to do this and the main steps to follow to get your skin ready to apply your makeup.
Getting your skin ready for makeup, step by step
Preparing your skin before applying makeup is key to ensure that both processes are perfect at all times, and even though we may know that moisturising face cream is fundamental in our routine, there are other steps to follow as well, take note!
- Cleansing: for healthy skin, we need to use cleansing products that clean our face completely before we apply the other products in our facial skincare routine. How can we do it? By using the double cleansing method, which consists of first cleaning our face using an oil to “drag” the dirt and makeup remains off our face, and then a soapy product to finish up the cleaning.
- Face tonic: there are different types of face tonic, but in general it eliminates any impurities from our face and controls sebum in oily skin or acne.
- Face serum: there are many types of serum depending on what our skin needs, but the main function of this cosmetic product is to enhance the beauty of our skin, and that means: enhancing luminosity, smoothing out wrinkles and conferring extra hydration, among others.
- Eye cream: after applying serum, the next step is obvious: caring for the delicate skin around our eyes to moisturise it and prevent wrinkles.
- Moisturising cream: the main function of this product is to hydrate our skin. There are lots of moisturising creams, each one with an active ingredient adapted to our age and our needs. We do need to differentiate between night face cream and day face cream though.
- Sun cream: the most important one, and the one many of us forget about! Remember to apply it after putting on your day moisturising cream.
- Face mask and exfoliating products: we recommend completely exfoliating your face once a week, and then applying a moisturising face mask to nurture your skin a bit more... Perfect for showing off your makeup!
