What is textured hair?
You will most likely have heard the term recently when we talk about the latest fashionable hairstyles. They are hairstyles with texture, also known as “textured”, which as you will see look really good and give us a more carefree, easygoing look. These hairstyles are for men and women alike.
So what do we mean when we say textured hairstyle or texturing hair? More than a definition in itself, we are talking about the result. We are going to simulate the natural process to get this look. You wash your hair, rinse it and then brush or comb it. Although your hair feels clean and soft, it actually looks better the next day when the result is not so recent. Your hair looks better the next day precisely because it will have acquired the texture that we talk about so much these days. It is not so pristine; it has a more natural texture and volume that suits you better.
Therefore, it is the result of giving more body, consistency and waviness to our hair. Texturing products are a suitable option for all types of hair, and better still, we can find them in many different formats. Although it might sound like a complicated styling process, the truth of the matter is that it is much easier than it sounds, and you can do it easily using products that you already have at home.
How to texture our hair?
A good start is to make sure you know what type of hair you have, and what result you want to achieve, knowing how your hair will react to finally achieve a natural looking texture and movement.
How to get textured hair? This is done using hair products such as, sprays, lacquer or dry shampoo. These beauty products help you to mould your hair, to give it volume but without flattening it. If you have naturally curly hair, you can use a nourishing texturiser and add a little heat protection or anti-frizz serum for a straightening effect. If you want to highlight your curls, you should use a texturiser for curls or styling gel for more definition and to achieve new textures.
Certain hairstyles also help to create this effect, based on layering or strategic cuts to create a tousled appearance and to give movement to your hair. Different cuts have been developed to texture hair: the one known as the point cut which consists of using scissors to make vertical cuts instead of horizontal cuts. The deeper the cut, the more texture we create. The slicing technique is also used to texture our hair, which consists of placing the scissors around a lock of hair and sliding them downwards without actually closing them, to get rid of some thickness and give movement to heavy or thick hair.
