Skin care order: the perfect routine
The order in which we apply our skin care products is important if we want to make the most of these products. We provide you with a guide and discuss the mistakes to avoid!
Quite often a casual conversation with a friend can completely distort our routines and habits, things like “Do we do enough exercise?”, “Do we wash our hair the right number of times per week?” and the million dollar question: “Do we apply our moisturising cream properly?”. “Which is first, serum or cream, moisturiser or protector?”
With September and getting back to normal just around the corner, it’s time to start setting ourselves a good beauty routine. In just 10 minutes a day following these steps we will make better use of all the active ingredients in the products we use in our routine, because as far as face beauty routine is concerned, the order in which we use our products will affect the final result.
Importance of your skin care order
Cleansing
The most important thing is to choose the right cleansing product for our skin and find the formula that favours us most. We can easily go too far and dry out our skin using face cleansers. It is important to bear in mind that dry skins need more milk and oil, whereas oily skins prefer gels and mixed products, cleansing foams, but this is a matter of taste. It is important to make sure the cleanser doesn’t leave our faces too dry or too oily.
Moreover, cleaning should be deep but gentle, we should not need to scrub our faces.

Tonic
Applying tonic is fundamental so that the products we apply next penetrate our skin to make sure it absorbs their properties better.

Eye cream
This is one of the most delicate parts of our face, and it is where the first signs of ageing are visible with so-called crow’s feet. Despite working as a moisturiser, eye cream is not the same as normal moisturisers, since it contains specific ingredients for the area around our eyes.

Serum or treatment ampoules
The more liquid or more concentrated products are always applied first so as not to prevent our skin from absorbing the next products.
The myth that serum should always be applied with face cream is not true. Serum is the same as face cream. It doesn't activate the cream. They are equal products but with different textures. They usually complement each other, but they can also be used independently without the need for moisturising cream.

Hydration
Age is not something we need to consider when choosing a specific type of treatment. When thinking about our skin care we need to consider internal ageing, which is due to our DNA, and external ageing, which is due to external factors such as exposure to the sun and others. Someone aged 25 can have skin that already shows signs of ageing, more than older skin, owing to the external factors.
Therefore, when we choose our treatment, we should always know what our goal is: moisturising, treating blotches, tightening, luminosity, etc.
Moisturisers can have two objectives: compensating for the lack of oil in the skin, dryness or lack of water, i.e. dehydration.
We should ideally find a cream that contains hyaluronic acid, glycerine, shea butter or panthenol. We should also consider the time of year and the climate to choose differently textured products and not overload our skin with face products.

Solar protection
This is the most important step in our beauty routine. According to experts there is no better anti-ageing cream than using sun cream all year round. Sun cream should always be SPF 30 or over. Be careful with moisturisers or CC Cream with sun protection, which does not usually reach a protection factor of 30, and we should therefore never skip this step even if we use these products.

Makeup
Finally we can apply our makeup if we want. We should wait at least five minutes after applying the last product before applying our makeup to make sure the protection penetrates our skin properly.
