How to apply makeup without brushes

Brushes are perhaps the most common implements that we use in the world of makeup, but they are not the only option for a dazzling appearance. If you don’t have any brushes at hand or if you just want to try a new effect, follow this step-by-step guide:

Advantages of makeup without brushes

  • Natural look: one of the main advantages of applying makeup with your hands or with sponges, but without brushes, is that you will achieve a brighter, more natural look.
  • Quick: applying makeup without brushes can often be much quicker than using brushes. It is ideal when you are in a hurry.
  • Less product waste: when we don’t use brushes, we tend to get the exact amount of makeup that we need, which can help us save money in the long-run.
  • Experimenting: applying makeup without brushes encourages creativity. You can mix and combine textures, colours and products more readily.

Easy makeup without brushes: Ready in 5 minutes!

1. Preparing your skin

Clean your face with a mild cleanser and then apply some light moisturising cream to keep your skin hydrated and feeling fresh.

2. Foundation

Apply it using your fingers by dabbing small amounts of foundation on your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, and then gently blend it in using upward circular movements. This will produce a natural look and you will avoid using an excessive amount of the product.

3. Corrector

Use the fingertip of your ring finger to apply the corrector to the areas where you need that little bit extra, such as the bags under your eyes and any blemishes. Gently dab it on and then blend it in slightly to avoid any obvious edge lines.

4. Blusher and tanner

To apply the blusher, smile and then apply the colour to the apples of your cheeks. When applying the tanner, draw a “3” shape on both sides of your face (temples, cheeks and jaw), using gentle sweeping movements with your fingers.

5. Eye shadow

Use your fingertips to apply and blend the eyeshadow on your eyelids. You can mix several shades to achieve a fading effect.

6. Eyeliner

Use an eyeliner pencil or an eyeliner gel to define your eyes. Apply the eyeliner near your top and bottom eyelashes to enhance your eyes. Use a pencil to gently and accurately define your eyelashes.

7. Mascara

Apply the mascara from the roots of your eyelashes towards the ends making a zig-zag movement to avoid any lumps.

8. Lipstick

Apply your lipstick directly from the container, or use your fingers to blend the colour into your lips. If you want a more precise finish, you can use a lip pencil or even a cotton bud to define the edges.

9. Fixer

Finish off your makeup by applying a fixer spray that will make sure that everything stays in place for longer.

10. Final cleaning

Make sure you clean your hands and face properly. Use a mild cleanser to get rid of any makeup before doing your nighttime routine to keep your skin healthy.
