Cream makeup: What it is and when to use it

We usually combine cream and powder products when we use makeup. We apply cream before a powder product to ensure it remains on our skin, and likewise to avoid the cream product from running from where we applied it, by fixing it with powder. Powder seals the cream and cream works as a “glue” for the powder.

Cream makeup or cream foundation?

You are probably familiar with correctors, bb cream and makeup foundation in cream form, but the way of understanding makeup changes when we discover that there are also cream or liquid blushers, highlighters and even eyeshadow. In fact, you can use cream makeup for your entire makeup routine, only applying powder for the finishing touches at the end.

• Cream makeup looks good and suits most types of skin. From a fully fluid, even liquid makeup foundation to stick products. They are usually hypoallergenic and contain moisturising ingredients. Check the product label if you have any kind of skin disorder.
• They are sure to suit you whatever your age. They will prevent younger skins from drying out and ageing early. If you have older skin, bear in mind that powder makes all your wrinkles and signs of age more noticeable, so it will be better to always use cream products.
• A more natural finish. With cream products, blusher has a more natural bloom, highlighter will bring out the natural shine of your skin, your eyes will have greater depth without being excessively overloaded. The more natural your makeup looks, the better, particularly with your daily makeup.
• Easy to apply. The warmth of your skin helps cream makeup to blend in more easily, and even if we aren't experts we will achieve a better result. It is more comfortable to wear since it doesn’t look like a mask, as is the case of powder makeup.
• Convenient. These formats are less delicate than powder makeup, and they are better able to withstand the daily banging about in our makeup bag or handbag. This type of makeup also has other advantages when travelling.

How to apply cream makeup?

There are 3 basic ways to apply cream makeup, and they all have different end results:

• Using your fingertips: this is perhaps the easiest and most intuitive way of applying it, but it is also the least hygienic, particularly if our hands are not properly clean. It is particularly useful when we are short of time and need a quick, subtle touch-up.
• Using a brush: this is the most professional way to apply it. Particularly for the foundation and eyeshadow, we use the brush to dab makeup all over our face. Contouring or blusher can be applied using longer brush strokes. The end result is a very uniform finish on your skin.
• Using a beauty blender: these products make blending the makeup easier and lead to a more natural finish. We apply our makeup using small movements mainly for our corrector, highlighter and foundation.
