The start of the summer brings endless events with it: weddings, baptisms, communions, days out with friends, etc. If you still haven’t managed to get the tan you want and you are reluctant to wear a skirt, dress or shorts, we have the perfect tip for you...Leg makeup.

That’s right, makeup for legs is a trick we can resort to because it has a similar result to face makeup: it helps even out skin tone, cover up marks or veins that we don’t want others to see, and it also confers a little colour.

We’re going to talk about the different products that you can use and how to apply them properly.

3 things to bear in mind before applying leg makeup

Think about it, if we apply makeup to our face, neck and neckline, why not do the same with our legs occasionally? It is a trick that is healthier and cheaper than going to a tanning parlour and lying under sunlamps. A good facial cleansing routine, is important to achieve a good finish when applying makeup to our faces, and the same is true for the rest of our body, since achieving the desired results with leg makeup, requires preparing our skin beforehand. Take note how to do it!

  1. Proper epilation: which will mean the product will spread better over your skin and will help you to show off a better finish. We tell you everything you need to know about epilation and the products to use, here.
  2. Exfoliate your skin properly: this process favours regeneration of your skin and completely eliminates dead skin cells. Proper exfoliation, either using exfoliating cream or an exfoliating glovewill help your skin to absorb the nutrients and active ingredients in the moisturising lotions you use such as body oil or body milk and this will therefore help the makeup to adhere to our legs better.
  3. Deep skin moisturising: this is a fundamental step in all beauty care routines, whether on our face or body. Good hydration means that the level of moisture in the skin is balanced and that the protective barrier is stronger and more flexible, helping to keep skin protected, nourished, supple, shiny... and more beautiful.

How to apply makeup to your legs

Like when applying makeup to our faces, applying it to our legs will depend on the effect we want to achieve:

  • Covering imperfections: If you want to cover up imperfections such as varicose veins, scars or spots, the best way to do it is to buy a makeup foundation or corrector the same colour as the colour of your legs and apply it by dabbing it on using a makeup sponge and then powder makeup to seal the product.

  • A touch of colour: On the other hand if you are looking for showing off evenly tanned legs, you will need to prepare your legs properly beforehand. Choose the makeup foundation you prefer and spread it on using your hands as if it were moisturising cream. Remember to seal it afterwards using powder makeup. Warning! If you want to achieve a more glow look, we recommend using powder highlighters and using a brushspread it in straight lines working downwards from your knees to your feet. You will not only get a shinier look, but this will also help to give them an air-brushed look.

  • Perfectly tanned legs: The best way to show off evenly tanned legs is to buy a self-tanning cream. You have to be careful how you apply it though, otherwise you run the risk of leaving a streaky finish on your skin.

  1. Exfoliate your skin properly.
  2. Make sure your skin is properly dry before you apply it.
  3. Use disposable gloves to avoid staining your hands.
  4. Apply the product by hand, spreading it as if it were moisturising cream, always in the same direction and paying special attention to any rougher areas or skin folds. Warning! Do not try to put more layers on than necessary, one is enough.
  5. Do not apply it near your clothes and wait for your skin to fully absorb it before getting dressed.
