How to open pores and show off a cleaner skin
There are many factors that can block our pores. Discover the most adequate cleansing method for you and get a healthier skin without blackheads.

Few people escape from blackheads, and even more so in hot weather, when sebaceous secretion increases with sweat, which can lead to more appearing. Pores can become clogged by dry or dead skin cells, excess oil, make-up, sweat and dirt. They can appear in several sizes. The biggest ones usually appear in adolescence, and the smallest ones can prevail all your life. What a nuisance, aren’t they?
Blackheads, what causes them?
Blackheads, known as “comedones”, are an obstruction of the skin pores that appear due to the production of sebum, which is an oily substance that especially appears on the face, above all in the so-called ‘T-zone’ (forehead and nose), and it is associated with the oxidation process of cells. These dilations occur when sebum and keratin accumulate, influenced by hormones. When they come into contact with the air, these substances oxidise, hence their blackish colour.
Certain areas of the body, such as the face, back and chest, are areas of great hormonal influence, as well as being the oiliest areas of the body.
Dermatologists advise not ‘touching’ blackheads unless this is done by aesthetic specialists or dermatologists to avoid infection and the possible appearance of pimples.
Why open facial pores?
To avoid their appearance, dermatologists advise following suitable facial hygiene, washing your face twice a day with sebum-regulating soap.
Home treatment to open pores
A very effective treatment to open the pores at home is by using steam. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Clean your face with soap or toner to remove dirt or remains of make-up.
- Boil water and pour it into a bowl.
- Put your face over the bowl and cover your head with a towel, to make a ‘cave’ effect, and for the steam to be concentrated on your face. If you want, you can add essential oils to the water to make the experience more pleasant.
- Stay like that for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, wash your face with cold water to close the pores.
- Wipe your face and apply a moisturiser.
