How to hydrate your hair after long exposure to the sun
Saltpetre, chlorine in the pool, and the sun dry out your hair a lot. We tell you how to hydrate your hair to recuperate its gloss and softness after summer.

September comes around and with it, a new start; it is as if a new year suddenly comes out; we resume or start routines, diets, daily care that we have abandoned during the holiday period. One of the aspects that we often pay less attention to is our hair care, because, in summer, we always allow ourselves a bit of leeway and don’t worry so much about it; above all, due to the heat and because we are continuously wetting it, and we usually engage, more than we should, in the “wash and go” routine.
Tips to hydrate your hair at home
The first thing we have to consider is what type of hair we've got; if it is fragile, fine, thick, frizzy, oily, weak, straight, curly or very punished. And depending on this, see what needs to be done if we have to repair and nourish, repair and hydrate, or all of this at the same time.
The main differences are:
-
Nourishing is feeding.
-
Hydrating is giving water.
-
Repairing is the cement, which is essential for your hair not to break if it is damaged, because we’ll not achieve anything by just nourishing or hydrating it.
Therefore, the first thing we must do is to repair our hair. To do this, on the supermarket shelves we will find numerous specific products that can help us in this process. Once our hair is repaired, we can hydrate it and nourish it according to our needs.
To make use of this type of specific products such as masks, ampoules or tip-sealers, we must follow the manufacturers’ instructions, but, if we want a more immediate effect, we must apply them from tips to mid-section, and leave them to act for a while. Further, we can boost the effect of these products by applying heat, heating a towel in the microwave, wrapping our hair in the towel, and letting the product act. We can repeat this process once a week.
We can also apply the mask on dry hair, and leave it overnight. The next day, we will wash our hair as we do normally.
Once we have repaired our hair, we must constantly apply specific hydration or nourishing products.
Every time we wash our hair we must apply a conditioner, always from mid-section to tips, because, unlike the mask (also from mid-section to tips) which can be applied to the roots, the conditioner cannot, because our scalp already generates natural oils to keep the roots hydrated; therefore, it is the part of our hair that gets greasy more quickly.
Tip:
rinse your hair with cold water whenever you can. The hair cuticles will be sealed for a smoother finish. When we think of shiny surfaces, they all have softness in common, too. So we’re going to do the conditioning process a real favour. Go on and do it!
