Do you know what causes dark circles under the eyes? There are both genetic and nutritional reasons behind unsightly bags under the eyes. Let's take a look at the different types of dark circles under the eyes so that we can treat them.

Types of dark circles

Genetic: some people have darker skin pigmentation under the eyes, due to an increase in melanin. This factor is often hereditary and related to genetics.

There are topical treatments that help to lighten and exfoliate the skin.

Due to age: ageing due to the passage of time causes the skin to lose its elasticity, making it thinner and thinner. Thin skin allows the blood vessels, which in turn are more dilated, to become more visible. They are related to the appearance of wrinkles. They can be treated with mesotherapy, hyaluronic acid, radiofrequency, peeling or laser.

Sunken dark circles: this is due to the appearance of furrows in the area and displacement of the fat pads. They can be treated with hyaluronic acid injections.

Due to illness: allergy, conjunctivitis or the appearance of eczema can cause this area of the skin, which is the most delicate part of the face, to become irritated when you rub your eyes. This, in turn, may trigger a build-up of blood in the veins in this area, leading to the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

Transitory: these are dark circles under the eyes that appear occasionally due to lack of sleep, tiredness or stress, and tend to disappear if we remedy them by sleeping more, resting or being less stressed. They can improve with massages, drainage and cold compresses.

There are two types of under-eye concealers: the pre-concealer, which usually varies in colour depending on the type of under-eye circles we want to make up, and the concealer itself. We should not use an excessively light shade, as it will look artificial and unsightly, and we should moisturise the area beforehand to prevent it from cracking.

Pre-conceale:as a preliminary step to concealer. It can be yellow or orange, depending on the darkness of the area. Yellow is more effective on dark circles with a purplish tone, while orange is recommended for very dark circles, because it has high coverage, and is perfect for dark circles with a greenish tone.

Concealer: this should be applied after the pre-concealer and foundation to completely camouflage the dark circles under the eyes. The easiest way to blend it is with small touches of the fingertips.

To extend the life of the concealer and increase luminosity, we can finish off by using a translucent powder with a velvety texture and a lifting effect.
