Is going to bed with wet hair bad?
Is going to bed with wet hair good for our health or is it counterproductive? Find out the effects and some tips to look after your hair while you rest.
With the arrival of the summer heat we often have a shower to cool off before going to bed. But, should we dry our hair before we go to sleep? Or, should we have a siesta or go to bed at night with wet hair?
Hair specialists strongly advise men and women against going to bed with wet hair, since it has consequences for our hair and also for our general health.

How to avoid going to bed with wet hair
It is important to dry your hair before going to bed, but we should not make excessive use of hairdryers either. Therefore, we should get rid of any excess water and moisture in our hair by gently towel-drying it and then brushing it with a wide-toothed comb or brush to unknot it. This will help to avoid hair loss and allow our hair to dry naturally.
This should be enough, but if we have thick hair that takes a long time to dry naturally, or if we are simply going to go to bed straightaway, we should get rid of excess moisture with a hairdryer, avoiding the maximum heat so as not to damage our hair fibres.

Consequences of sleeping with wet hair
Although sleeping with wet hair is not overly detrimental for our hair, we do need to bear certain things in mind:
We should ideally go to bed when our hair is dry, but if needs must and we have to go to bed with wet hair, then the best thing to do is to wrap it in a towel.
Going to bed with wet hair weakens our hair fibres and it can therefore lead to more brittle, weaker hair.
It can enhance the appearance of fungi and bacteria in our scalp due to excessive moisture.
Our hair can even become greasier, since our sebaceous glands can be altered by the moisture.
We should not forget that sleeping with wet hair can also lead to other health problems. For example, it can cause headaches, migraines or muscle pain, since the area can get cold. We may even wake up with a cold due to the sudden temperature changes.
