Discover the properties of Resveratrol

Why drink a glass of wine a day? We have heard on numerous occasions that drinking a glass of wine can be beneficial to our health; at least some studies on the subject consider this to be the case.
BUT WHAT BENEFITS DOES WINE AFFORD?
One of the keys is resveratrol, a substance that has been shown to have numerous benefits for our health.
- It is an antioxidant, so it protects our organism.
- It is anti-inflammatory.
- It protects the cardiovascular system.
- Anti-stress and antidepressant.
What is resveratrol?
It is a substance that is naturally generated in some fruit and plants, among them the grapes that will be transformed into our so precious wines, and whose function it is to protect them during their development on the plant.
Where do we find it?
We find it in the grapes, in the skin of the grapes and in the pips. We can benefit from it by eating fresh grapes, raisins, or in a glass of good wine.
It is transmitted to the wine by means of maceration, the step prior to fermentation. The skins of the grapes, after being crushed to extract the "must" juice, can be left in contact with it for more or less time; it is at this moment when the resveratrol is transmitted to the wine in greater or smaller measure depending on the contact time.
We also find this beneficial substance for our organism in some types of fruit, especially red or purple fruit such as blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and other plants.
Which wines contain more resveratrol?
Resveratrol is found in grapes, but not in the same amount in all of them. The content varies depending on the climate, sunlight, humidity and other factors.
It also varies according to the wine making process. Red wines undergo longer macerations, and more so when we make wines intended for long ageing, as maceration will provide us with the tannins and structure necessary for that ageing.
It will also depend on the type of grape, the Malbec, Tannat, Cabernet Savignon or Pinot Noir are grapes with a high content of this substance.
Among the native grapes of our country, noteworthy is the Bobal, a grape that comes from the area of Utiel Requena and La Mancha, which produces concentrated and fruity wines with a high content of this beneficial substance for our organism. It is the second most cultivated grape in our country and offers us red wines with high tannins, and concentrated colours. It is also ideal for producing fresh and fruity rosé wines.

WINE THERAPY
That wine, drunk in moderation, is beneficial to our health is a proven fact, and that its properties go beyond a glass of wine is also true. Proof of this is Wine Therapy, treatments based on the beneficial properties of wine that we can enjoy in many places today.
- Wine baths.
- Skin exfoliation with grapes.
