Tablets are becoming another must-have device, after the smartphone, in homes all around the world. The fact they are larger in size than a mobile phone screen makes them perfect for travelling without needing to take your laptop, watching films and series, for children and adults and, of course, for browsing the internet and shopping online. In addition, they are being used more and more by school children for lessons or to connect with other classmates.
The screens of tablets are high tech systems that can’t be cleaned in just any way, the same as a TV screen. You have to take special care using the appropriate products, so they work properly and don't render them unusable because, no screen, no tablet.
Since the screen is larger, you must take a lot of care when cleaning it. We tell you the best ways to clean it and the specific products you need to ensure you don't damage it.
How to clean a tablet step by step
- Disconnect the screen from the power source of the computer it’s plugged into or any other external device.
- Switch the device off: because it’s easier to clean the tablet with the screen off.
- Remove the dust: use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to remove the dust. You can use a microfibre cloth, one of which usually comes with the Tablet. Otherwise, you can use the one you got with your sunglasses. Microfibre doesn’t cause scratches and prevents the release of particles that may become trapped in the different holes on the device.
- Prohibited products: avoid using glass cleaner, household cleaning products, aerosols, solvents, ammonia, abrasive substances or cleaners that contain hydrogen peroxide to clean the screen, or a cleaner containing acetone.
- Don’t directly spray the tablet: you should take extra care to prevent any moisture from entering any openings, or penetrating it and breaking it. You should ideally use a cleaner specifically for screens.
- Distilled water: you can use a cotton cloth wet with distilled water and wipe the screen, using circular movements and without exerting too much pressure, leaving it to air dry. You can also dampen the screen by breathing on it, and wipe it with a cloth, like the lenses of a pair of glasses.
- Don’t forget the charging cable: to clean it, unplug each end of the cable from the device and the mains adaptor. Then use a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth to clean the whole cable. If the cable isn’t completely clean, use a damp cloth with soap and water to clean it thoroughly. Finally, use a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.
Did you know...?
One inch equates to 2.54 centimetres, but in the case of screens, measurements are done diagonally. In other words, by measuring from the bottom left edge to the top right edge (or vice versa). That way, you can determine the exact measurement.
The measurement in inches of a tablet only includes the useful surface of the screen, not the frame. For example, a 10 inch tablet would have a diagonal length of 25.5 centimetres, horizontal length of 21.7 centimetres and vertical length of 13.6 centimetres, without counting the frame, which can add between half and two inches.
