Did you know that cleaning cloths are a hive of bacteria? If you want to prevent your cloths getting full of micro-organisms, you need to follow a cleaning routine the same as you do with your other home linen. We are going to give you some tips to get rid of stains and smells more easily.

How to disinfect kitchen cloths

Although it may seem obvious, you need clean cloths to keep your kitchen clean. Therefore, spending time washing your cleaning cloths and getting rid of any grease, fat and other dirt on them is indispensable.

With ammonia and cleaning vinegar

  • Pour 5 litres of warm water in a bowl and add two capfuls of liquid ammonia or 3 cups of white cleaning vinegar mixed with natural lemon juice.
  • Put the cloths in the mixture and leave them to soak for 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how dirty they are.
  • Remove them from the bowl afterwards and then wash them on a short cycle in the washing machine with hot water.

Cleaning white cloths

  • To get rid of dirt from white cloths, leave them to soak in water with cornflour and a little chlorine and allow them to soak overnight.
  • Add two spoonfuls of baking powder afterwards, washing powder or liquid and 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Leave the cloths to soak for 15 minutes more and they will be as clean as when they were new.

How to get rid of smells from your kitchen cloths

Getting rid of stains is one thing, but getting rid of smells is another. Nobody likes picking up a cloth and getting hit by an unpleasant smell. Follow these steps to avoid bad smells:

  • Mix water, a cupful of white vinegar and three spoonfuls of baking powder in a bowl.
  • Put the dirty cloths in and allow them to soak for around 30 minutes.
  • Remove them one by one and rub them clean. Then leave them in the bowl for 5 minutes.
  • Remove each cloth, wring them out and allow them to dry in the sun.
