How to apply face cream properly

A good skincare routine is fundamental for perfect skin, but so is applying your creams properly. What’s more, if we take advantage of the moment when we apply our cosmetics to give ourselves a face massage, we will activate blood circulation in the area and oxygenate our cells so that the products we use in our face skincare are absorbed quicker. We often forget about our neck during our skincare routine, but we should look after it the same as we do our faces. Our neck ages too! In the same way as we apply them to our face, serum and cream should be applied in upward movements on our neck.

How to apply facial sun cream

All good face routines should include facial sun protection with a minimum sun protection factor of 50. This should be the last step in our skincare routine, because its function is to create a barrier to protect our skin from the sun and the harm it can cause such as: burns, sun spots, melasma or premature ageing, among others.

Facial sun cream: the right amount

The amount of facial sun cream recommended by experts is 2mg per cm². This is not a very practical way to express it, and we therefore recommend applying the “V” rule, or the two fingers rule. That involves placing a line of sun cream along our two fingers as a measure of the necessary amount to provide us with effective sun protection.

Facial sun cream: how often to apply it

We should apply sun protection cream on our faces every day after applying our moisturising cream, and therefore we should use it every time we are exposed to the sun... even if it is cloudy! The sun gives off harmful rays for our skin all year round, even when it doesn’t seem like it. 
We should apply our sun cream 30 minutes before exposure to the sun, and we also need to apply it again:

• Every two hours if we are not in contact with water.
• Every half hour if we are in contact with water and we use a waterproof sun cream.
• Every time we get wet and towel dry ourselves.
