Castor oil properties

What is castor oil?
Castor oil is vegetable oil obtained from a tropical African plant called the “Ricinus Communis”. Before obtaining this oil, the castor beans are subjecting to different washing, boiling and and drying processes before they are pressed. That is when the oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, is produced.
Castor oil properties and uses
In the past, castor oil was used for medicinal purposes, particularly for relieving stomach pain and constipation, because of its purging effects. Today, this oil is also known for its cosmetic and moisturising properties for the skin, hair and nails. Take note!
- Skin moisturising effect: as is the case of most oils, castor oil stands out for its moisturising properties because of its high content in fatty acids, and consequently, when it is applied to the skin, this oil improves hydration, smoothness and elasticity. This essential oil is great for dry and dehydrated kinds because it helps keep the natural moisture of skin, but..., it is also good for older skin and stretch marks! It stimulates production of collagen and elastin. When used regularly, it helps to reduce the signs of ageing and stimulates skin cell regeneration.
- Instructions for use: Clean you face as you would normally do, and when it is dry apply a few drops of castor oil in the palm of your hand. Apply it to your face by gently pressing into your skin.
- It stimulates hair growth: applying castor oil to your scalp helps or encourages hair growth. Furthermore, thanks to its high content in fatty acids such as Omega 9, castor oil acts as an excellent moisturiser that penetrates deep down into hair fibres and works on split ends. That is one of the reasons why castor oil is used in many hair cosmetics such as shampoo, creams and masks.
- Instructions for use: while your hair is wet, apply castor oil on your hands and gently massage it into your scalp. Wrap your hair in a towel and allow it to work for approximately half an hour. Wash your hair as normal to eliminate any remains of the product. For moisturising treatment, apply the castor oil to your hair from the middle to the ends and allow it to work for several hours (or overnight). Wash your hair afterwards as normal to eliminate any remains of the product.

- Maintenance and growth of eyebrows and lashes: the same as with your hair, if you stimulate the hair follicles of your eyebrows and lashes with castor oil, they will grow back, stronger and of course this will help to maintain them.
- Instructions for use: wash your face as usual and apply castor oil to your eyebrows and to the area where your eyelashes grow from, taking great care. Use an eyelash brush to help spread the oil easier.
- Improves growth of nails: thanks to the vitamin E it contains, castor oil is a great, effective remedy to make your nails stronger and give them more shine.
- Instructions for use:Wash your hands and make sure there are no nail varnish remains on your nails. Apply a few drops of castor oil on your nails and cuticles and gently massage it in.
