Clams
The clam is a small bivalve mollusc belonging to the Veneridae family. This is the name given to the family of molluscs that have a body compressed between two joined valves which form a shell. Clam shells are usually light in colour with brown or grey markings.
These molluscs usually have separate sexes and are fertilised externally.
They tend to live buried in the sand, under the surface on beaches or under the ocean, and feed by filtering water between their valves.
