How to clean the computer screen

Screens have become an indispensable part of our homes today. The truth of the matter is that instead of having just one screen at home like in the past, or two at the most, we now have multiple devices with screens that are ultra-thin and very delicate. We spend a long time looking at the screens of our computers, tablets and smartphones, and that is why keeping our computers, screens and other devices clean and disinfected is so important.

What can you clean the computer screen with?

To clean the computer screen, or any electronic device screen, whether they are touchscreens or not, the first thing we need to do is find a special cloth for this type of screen, since they are more delicate than the other glassware we usually have around the house. They are usually microfibre cloths, as they do not leave marks or scratch the surfaces. 

We should never use glass-cleaner solutions, general purpose house cleaners, solvents, ammonia, abrasive cleaners or any others that contain hydrogen peroxide to clean screens. 

If the screen does not come properly clean with just the cloth, we can moisten it in a mixture of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. This type of alcohol is not the same as alcohol for burning or cleaning, as these will damage screen surfaces. 

For deeper cleaning we can also use any of the specific screen cleaning products available on the market. 

Steps to clean the computer screen

The most important thing is never to apply the product directly on the screen. Whether it is a liquid, spray or aerosol, we should avoid wetting the laptop or tablet screen directly with any product.

1. First of switch off the computer or device you are going to clean.

1. Then wipe it with a cloth to remove any dust and dirt from the surface.

1. Shake out the cloth to get rid of any dust and to avoid leaving marks on the screen again. 

1. Turn the cloth over and apply the product to the cloth, without soaking it. Use enough to just dampen it.

1. Wipe the screen with the cloth in circular movements without pressing on too hard.
