Happiness diet: how to support pleasure hormones
Discover how certain foods stimulate pleasure hormones and improve your emotional and physical well-being every day.
Happiness is the feeling of well-being and optimism that we experience personally when we achieve something pleasurable. Like all other emotions, it's largely due to our brain chemistry. A group of neurotransmitters – dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and oxytocin – are responsible for causing these sensations, which is why they are known as the "feel-good hormones".
Although our body is programmed to generate them on its own, it is possible to increase their production naturally to improve our mood and we can do it:
- Doing physical exercise, at least three times a week.
- Following a healthy diet.
- Maintaining social relationships.
- Carrying out recreational activities and hobbies.
- Spending time outdoors.
- Sleeping between 7 and 8 hours a day.
