Cleaning the sandwich maker
Household appliances tend to get dirty and can contaminate our meals. In this case, we are going to tell you how to clean a sandwich maker.
Sandwich makers are great as a quick resort for breakfast, tea or any other quick meal. Since they are appliances that we use quickly and are plugged in to the electricity, we do not usually clean them every time we use them. That does not mean we don’t have to keep them clean for the next time we make our toasted sandwiches though.
If it does get very dirty, take note of the following tips:
How to clean a sandwich maker properly?
To clean the sandwich maker properly you will need:
- Kitchen roll
- Liquid soap (we can use washing-up liquid).
- A sponge - or the sponge side of a scouring pad.
- A clean cloth that doesn’t have any loose fluff or fibres.
- A wooden or silicone spatula. Never use metal or sharp items.
It is easier to clean the plates while they are still hot to get rid of the remains of food and fat, but the sandwich maker must be unplugged first so that we can use the residual heat to help us get it spotlessly clean.
- The first thing is to wipe it with kitchen roll to get rid of any food remains.
- When we have done this, add a few drops of soap and use a damp sponge to gently wipe the plates to get rid of any grease.
- Use the moist cloth to wipe down the sandwich maker and get rid of any remaining soap from the plates and grooves. We should be particularly careful in the area around the handles and where the power cable goes in.
- To finish off, we should dry it properly.
If the plates can be taken out, we should wash them as usual under the tap, but we should be careful not to scratch them by using a soft sponge.
It might seem obvious, but we should never wash the sandwich maker under the tap, as this will damage it.
We should not use metal or sharp items to clean it either, because they will scratch the non-stick surface on the plates.
How to get rid of cheese from the sandwich maker?
A trick to avoid cheese from staining our sandwich maker is to make sure the cheese doesn’t hang out of the sides of the bread. The slices of cheese should be smaller than the slices of bread so that all the melted cheese stays inside the sandwich.
