Engaging with people, being aware of the needs of the environment and acting with responsibility and solidarity is to be cooperative.
Consumer training
The Cooperative's Consumer Training programme carries out various training and information initiatives to promote healthy eating and responsible consumption among young people.
Team Consum is an educational website via which the Cooperative makes a multitude of contents available to teachers to help promote the teaching of responsible consumption in our schools. These resources are aimed at schoolchildren and propose different workshops, activities and games to learn in a fun and entertaining way.
The World Consumer Day Contest is Consum's longest-standing training programme. Under the guiding motto “Small actions”, every year young people are invited to reflect on a different topical issue. In this second edition entitled “Small actions so that health always wins”, and against the backdrop of the Covid19 pandemic, students were asked to suggest actions to take care of our own health or that of other people.
Social programmes
Consum works to prevent food waste through the Profit programme, which is currently part of the Waste Prevention Plan. In 2021, more than 8,460 tons of products worth 23.3 million euros were donated. It is estimated that these donations benefitted some 85,000 people.
This year, the Cooperative celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Profit programme. To celebrate these 10 years, the Cooperative launched the ‘10/10 People’ campaign to highlight the work of the volunteers and workers who make it possible for food to reach those who need it most.
Consum's Social Collaborations and Sponsorships Policy seeks to support social projects that generate a positive impact in the regions in which the Cooperative is located. As an active member of the community, the Cooperative also sponsors different activities of popular, cultural or gastronomic interest. The total value of social collaborations and sponsorships in 2021 was 307,965 euros.
