Generating economic growth makes your shopping more sustainable
Improving profitability, expanding, and distributing the results - this is what it means to be cooperative.
Sales and earnings
The Cooperative's 2024 sales reached 4.707,28 million euros, up 7,3% on the previous year, strengthening 2023's growth thanks to a business model built on people, sustainability and profitability as its strategic pillars.
Profits were 108,7 million euros, 7,5%% more. In 2024, the Cooperative's worker members shared in more than 65,5 million euros of this, equating to a distribution of €3.404,54 per person on average.
Network of shops
Consum continues its expansion by reinforcing its presence throughout Mediterranean Spain. In 2024, 59 new points of sale were opened, comprising 15 supermarkets belonging to the Consum brand and 44 Charter franchises. These new openings give Consum a total commercial network of 977 supermarkets throughout the Mediterranean - 498 fully owned and 479 franchisees - representing a total sales area of 713.904 m2 and making it the 6th largest distribution chain by area nationwide.
By the end of the 2024 financial year, Charter had opened 44 new stores. In addition, Consum increased its franchise network turnover by 12,7% compared to 2023, to reach 781,6 million euros.
Consum's online store turned 8 in 2024 and is already operative in 456 towns. With a turnover of 77,3 million euros, up 8% on the previous year, the online store offers more than 11.500 items, including loose and packaged produce, as well as a wide variety of brands that are prepared and shipped from 67 points of sale.
Logistics network
In 2024, the Cooperative consolidated its expansion into the south and southeast of Spain, with the development and launch of the logistics platform in Las Torres de Cotillas (Murcia), and the purchase of two plots of land in the logistics centres of Noblejas (Toledo) and Antequera (Málaga).
The platform in Las Torres de Cotillas, the Cooperative’s most highly automated and one of the most important in the Region of Murcia, is also the first CO₂-neutral facility in the Spanish food distribution
network. The new storage facility is 40 metres high and includes six stacker cranes, with the capacity to expand to eight in the future. This vertical storage solution reduces the need for floor space and increases service density. In addition to the automated silo, the building houses an automatic picking system capable of preparing 40,000 boxes per day.
Additionally, at the beginning of December 2024, Consum acquired a 150,000 m² plot of land in the Parque Tecnológico Logístico de Noblejas (Logistics Technology Park) in Toledo. The company plans to build a logistics platform on this site to support its expansion in Castilla-La Mancha, where Consum already operates 87 stores.
Consum has also purchased a 163,000 m² plot at the Centro Logístico de Antequera logistics centre in Málaga. This acquisition will enable the Cooperative to develop a logistics platform to secure its long-term expansion into Andalusia over the next ten years.
Following the model of the CO₂-neutral platform in Las Torres de Cotillas, Murcia, both new platforms will incorporate the latest energy efficiency measures to meet Consum’s sustainability commitments.
Currently, the Cooperative's total logistics area measures 210,300 m2.
